Happy August El Rancho Coyotes! As you can imagine, this school year is going to be a little bit different. There’s no need to feel anxious or uncertain though, because El Rancho has a plan to kick the school year off right – even if it’s virtually!

There’s a more detailed newsletter here that gives all the details of re-opening and what you and your student need to know before the school year gets started.

You can find the distance learning bell schedule here and the 2020 distance learning calendar by clicking the link here.

As we transition into online learning for the 1st quarter, we want to remind you of a few important things.  Emotional support and mental health are still essential during this time. Here at El Rancho we pledge to support our students, families and staff. We will be providing accurate and ongoing communication through emails, and we encourage all students and families to regularly check the website along with our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Students also have options! We are committed to providing a schedule that is flexible. Students will have the option once we return to in-person classes to maintain a seven-period schedule or reduce down to five or six periods by removing an elective. We are also offering students the option of 100% online learning for the entire 2020-2021 school year. Your family and student’s comfort are of utmost importance to us. These are unprecedented times, Coyotes, we are resilient and together we will get through this.

Teachers are also gearing up for a year that’s looking different. Many El Rancho teachers are adopting the Flipped Classroom Model for their lessons. Students will have instruction, class discussion, collaboration, independent work and teacher support throughout the day. To read more about flipped learning, – watch this!

Attendance will still be important during this time, as will arriving to online classes on time. If you student needs to miss school, please call 714-628-5427 to let us know.

And lastly, school supplies! Even during distance learning, students will need lined and graph paper, pens, pencils, a ruler and a calculator. Anything else is completely optional, but we encourage picking up some small things just to make the school year feel a little more exciting and less uncertain. Backpacks, glitter pens, colored sticky notes – all the fun things!

We are all so excited to get the school year started and see our new (and old) Coyotes even if it is through our computer screens. We feel grateful to be able to move our in-person classrooms online and still teach our students.
