It’s time to grab your dancing shoes and learn about dance at El Rancho! Have you met Ms. Cross, El Rancho’s lead dance teacher? She teaches jazz, contemporary, ballet, lyrical, modern and hip hop. She began her dance career in 8th grade in San Antonio, Texas. Ms. Cross landed on the dance team in high school and then went to Texas State University, where she studied dance and received her bachelor’s degree in exercise sports science with an emphasis on dance.

After college, she traveled with a dance company teaching across the United States. And in her years teaching, she has taught at all levels – from kindergarten to high school. She’s not only passionate about dance, but she found her love of fitness as well when she was in college. Her love of fitness has been incorporated into her dance class as she covers healthy lifestyle choices, which includes everything from aerobic activity, light weights, yoga and nutrition.

Ms. Cross aims to help students learn to work in teams and focus on character development in her class. Students don’t just dance in her class; they also learn about influential people in dance past and present, the history of the different dance genres, as well as choreography basics, including student-centered pieces.

And while some may think her class is just for girls, Ms. Cross reports that she has plenty of boys take her classes as well! So if your student is looking to grab their dancing shoes and get moving for a period during the day, this is the class for them!
